Acer A1~810 Tablet Update To Kitkat 4.4.2 July 17, 2014

Posted by Admin in Uncategorized.

Great news! Acer A1~810 tablet users.
The impossible has just happened today (17 July 2014) ~ an OTA update of firmware Android 4.4.2 Kitkat for the 7.9″ MediaTech 1.2 GHz quad~core tablet.

This tablet was launched early last year and nobody would expect the update to Kitkat at this hour. Read the following blog post:

BUT IT HAPPENS! The Kitkat has arrived on Acer A1-810.
Well done, Acer.

The firmware 4.4.2 is about 250+ MB large. The process of download and installation took at least 15 mins including Android upgrade and apps optimization.

At the end of it, any good for this tablet to receive such a late update from JB 4.2.2 to Kitkat 4.4.2 ?
The answer: YES, YES YES.

While i am still finding out more details after the update, here are some obvious results:
1.  Improve in speed & fluidity of UI and apps.
2.  Camera speed (faster response).
3.  Clear indications of memory and CPU (software) optimization.

Below are greatly improved benchmark of Antutu and Quadrant test.

The Quadrant benchmark in particular, shows a great improvement (memory management, software optimization) over what was before this Kitkat update.

Not all Android devices are optimized that much when update from Jelly Bean to Kitkat, especially this is on a MediaTech chipset. This is no mean feat.

Acer engineers have done their homework and implement the update for Acer A1~810 very well. It is better to be late than to have it half~baked. Thank you Acer.

I’m new to all of this. I recently purchased this tablet top use in my classroom with my students as well as for personal use. Mainly I have educational apps & games for my students that generally I save to the SD card/external storage because of the size of the apps & number of apps I download. I just received my a1-810 yesterday & can upgrade but if I do, will I be able to save the games to sd card (like I did on my old cheapie no name tablet)?

I’m not tech savvy. The jargon just isn’t my thing, I’m sorry.

For this Acer tablet, the Taiwan made chipset does not allow you to directly save games and data to the external sdCard. You can however, using File Manager to transfer media files/data (i.e. music, songs, photos, office files, powerPoints, download files from web etc. etc.) to the sdCard to free up space of the internal memory storage. It is good to update to the latest 4.4.2 Android version as prompted by the notification. The overall efficiency and smoothness are improved significantly after the update.
