This is a review of Sony Xperia S flashed with the popular MIUI v5 ROM.

Is the custom rom good enough? The answer is yes.

What’s really matter: after flashing the MIUI rom.
1.  The device’s 12MP camera performs very well, under decent day light condition as well as good indoor lighting.

2.  Audio system (music) is excellent.

3.  Screen quality is excellent.

4.  UI & Theme selection :  Great!

What remains So-so:
1.  Battery juice.

2.  Not for heavy gaming.

3.  Ram size (1 GB).

4.  CPU (only dual-core).

Compared with stock rom?

MIUI is definitely more versatile and pleasant to use. Highly customizable.

Conclusion:

For those who still holding on to the Sony Xperia S as daily driver, it is no harm at all to convert it to the MIUI rom environment.
Moving over to MIUI gives this nice Sony phone a new leaf of life.

The OTA firmware update to Android 5.1 came this morning (22 April 2015).
The time taken for firmware download to installation and Android upgrade is about 30 minutes.

Remember, after successful system boot up, you should go to  Setting > Storage and clear Cache Data. And followed by power off and reboot up the device again.

After which, then you may start to test out your apps and functionality of your device.

For me, no bug detected and my Nexus 7 works well. Android 5.1 apparently improved on device’s ram management.

Those of you owning the Nexus 7 (2013 WiFi) version should receive the update today or very soon depending on which region you are in.

The external chasing is the same with Z3, a combination of metal frame and glass back.

The Xperia Z4 comes with for colors:  White, Black, Ocean Green and Gold.

Brief comments:
If Sony continues with such Halfway House approach to its smartphone design and development effort, things are going to look very ugly…

Even Samsung has awaken to the new smartphone market scenario that includes resurgence of Apple phones as well as highly competitive Chinese smartphone OEMs; and hence pushed out the top end product — Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge.

Sony makes good phones. But just making good phones is definitely not good enough for Sony to survive in 2015 and beyond…

After the update, briefly tested the WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth connectivity as well as installed apps; they work just fine.

Antutu benchmark test shows that the Nexus 7 is about Snapdragon 600 level of performance. (eg. HTC One M7).

Besides its good performance, two things stands out among the crowd of 7″ & 8″ Android tablets, it is the high resolution IPS screen and fast Ram (with 2GB).

Battery life maintains quite good with this 5.0.2 Lollipop update.
